“What did you fall down for?”

Our Son is getting married!
In Phoenix (fantastic haven’t been there in years).. in the Heat (there’s a.c. it will be okay)… Outside (Oh dear.. dress lightly, stay hydrated). It’s a very formal wedding (beautiful !), with formal attire (hmm, maybe chiffon it’s lightweight), and heals (ohkayy.. I’ll switch to flats after the ceremony).

All the out of towners are staying at the same hotel. It’s beautiful. Our Son got us a ground floor suite with a pool view. Meandering walkways begging to be explored its woderful. We are walking down to breakfast the morning of the wedding. Jim and me walking side by side talking, smiling, laughing, “look at that beautiful view!” I said. Jim turns to look, I take a step and my leg says “no way I’m participating in your support” and I promptly fall ungracefully onto my knees scrapping my hands and I almost face-plant (OMG did anybody see!?). Jim looks back over to where I was, then looks around, then down… (wait for it) “What did you fall down for?” “A no-see-em jumped out of that shrubbery and grabbed my ankle and wrestled me to the ground, … go get it!”

He helped me up and I watched my knee balloon to softball size before I got to the dining room.
The wedding was magical, everyone beautiful. Except for that tiny person in a floaty beautiful gown with a hideous elephantine knee! Wow she has to walk in heels on cobblestones in front of an abundance of people by herself… (I bet she face-plants).

And good times were had by all.

  1. Ahhh weddings…. You plan and plan and something unexpected always throws you off. I bet no bride has ever had a back up plan for a future mother-in-law with a knee cap that has suddenly become as large as a Dodge Ram. Frustrating. But only us with our absurd chronic illnesses can come up with a good comeback and an insect to blame our sudden crazy on. Way to go! Thank you for sharing and best wishes to you and the happy couple!!

PS- I’ve spent time in AZ and just the thought of the heat there does me in.

  2. I loved when you told what your husband’s statement was! I get that question too.
What on earth do they think? Have they forgotten what we all know and have experienced too many times? When you have MS you don’t need a reason to fall down! 🙂

  3. Thank you for sharing your story. It reminds me of falling at work. No one saw(Yeah!) That night my son and I are walking away from my work and he sees the 1/4″ change in sidewalk and remarks “That is a mom size tripping hazard.

A student tripped there the following week. I brought it up to the principal. I told him I fell over it, but that wasn’t a big deal. His response made me think I will follow him anywhere. “Whoa, you fell. That is a big deal.” My family and I am so used to it, that I forget that others don’t just fall for no reason.

  4. I can relate. I took a header into one of the litter boxes. When I hollered for husband, he came in, and asked me, “what are you doing in there!?”. My response, ” just doing a quick, up close litter inspection, Care to help me up?”. Why did he think I was laying in a litter box!? 😂
